Graduate Intern Resident Director (2 Male Openings)

Part-time, 12 month position, On Campus, Start: July 1, 2024

The Graduate Intern Resident Director is responsible for the development and coordination of the total residence program within his or her living area. He or she is the main facilitator in the planning and implementation of a meaningful residence life experience for students and Resident Assistants.  The Graduate Intern Resident Director serves as educator, minister and mentor with a developmental philosophy, committed to helping residential students bridge their academic and interpersonal worlds. 

Live in position, on-campus apartment provided on a rent-free basis, 10 meal per week meal plan and $300.00 dining flex dollars per academic year when food service is available. $7000.00 annual stipend.   

 

Interns must be accepted into and enroll in a Master’s program at Crown beginning in the Fall 2024. They must maintain a full time graduate student credit load and satisfactory grades to continue as an intern. Tuition scholarship, $1600.00 per academic year. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

 

The Graduate Intern Resident Director is responsible to supervise and develop his or her student leaders in the effective fulfillment of their responsibilities. The Graduate Intern Resident Director will:

  • Participate in the selection of Resident Assistants.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of all phases of RA Training.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled individual and staff meetings and one off-campus staff retreats per semester.
  • Provide for the professional and personal development and evaluation of staff.
  • Understand and communicate the rationale for Crown College regulations.
  • Support and publicly reinforce Crown College regulations.

Involvement with Students – The Graduate Intern Resident Director is responsible to create an environment conducive to individual student growth.  The Graduate Intern Resident Director will:

  • Lead RAs toward programming that reflects the core values of Student Development.
  • Develop a familiarity with resident’s individual needs directly, or through the Resident Assistant team.
  • Establish visibility, availability, and approachability for residents.
  • Advise and counsel students as requested (or needed) and make appropriate referrals.
  • Confront, counsel, and take an active role in the student discipline process for low level policy violations.
  • Utilize meal plan provided to periodically eat meals with students and/or faculty and staff.
  • Maintain appropriate relational boundaries; does not enter into social dating relationships with students.
  • Regularly attend Crown College chapel.
  • Attend all major Residence Life events.

Administration – Graduate Intern Resident Director is responsible for maintenance of the residence halls and their functions.  The Graduate Intern Resident Director will:

  • Oversee the ongoing use and upkeep of all rooms within residence area during the academic year.
  • Ensure residence area is prepared for the opening of the school year by collaborating with facilities personnel and directing student staff in timely walk-throughs, reporting issues, and follow up.
  • Coordinate custodial and maintenance needs to facilities personnel and/or housing, and monitor progress.
  • Assume direct responsibility for residence hall budgets.
  • Work with Housing regarding room change, and other housing programs as directed by the Dean of Students.
  • Serve as part of the on-call staff, as duty schedule dictates, including over breaks when the institution is closed.
  • Close halls at the end of the year
  • Maintain regular posted office hours.
  • Assist other Student Development staff as directed

Professional and Personal Growth – Graduate Intern Resident Director is responsible to participate in professional growth and training opportunities, and will:

  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Participate in planning and preparation of Residence Life initiatives and events.
  • Schedule regular individual meetings with your supervisor.
  • Participate in an on-going mentoring relationship with a more experienced Christian professional.
  • Work with supervisor to establish and implement a self-care plan.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Candidates should exhibit leadership ability, helping skills, conflict resolution and organizational ability.
  • Be in agreement with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Mobility that allows on-going interaction with students
  • Able to lift and carry loads of at least 25 pounds
  • Able to sit and counsel/mentor students for at least 45 minutes per session
  • Physically able to drive college vans
  • Able to stay up late (1 AM or so) and still conduct office hours and meetings the next day

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Acceptance into graduate program at Crown College (Graduate Interns must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credits per fall and spring term to maintain their position)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Student leadership experience in a like-minded Christian college or university
  • Experience within a related field or department
