Veterans Aid

In Honor of Your Service

At Crown College we value our veterans and their commitment to protecting our freedoms.

Below is some information to help you pay for college. If you have any questions you can contact our Director of Veterans, Emily Cano.

Tuition Assistance

You may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance (TA) Program if you are an active duty servicemember. The Tuition Assistance Program will fund your college tuition and certain fees with the following limits:

  • Not to exceed $250 per semester credit hour
  • Not to exceed $4,500 per fiscal year, Oct. 1 through Sept. 30

 

Application Process

Each military branch has its own TA application form and procedures. To find out how to get started, visit your local installation education center, go online to a virtual education center or click on the following links for each service branch:

Once you have been approved to receive Tuition Assistance and have received your approved Tuition Assistance Request for your registered course(s), submit it to the School Certifying Official.

 

Tuition Assistance Scholarship

The Tuition Assistance Scholarship is designed for current service members who are utilizing Federal Tuition Assistance (TA) from the military and are enrolled in the School of Online Studies or Graduate Studies. The scholarship is intended to fill the gap between TA funding and the total cost of tuition.

Application Process

  • Complete the Tuition Assistance Scholarship Application on our.crown.
  • Submit your approved Tuition Assistance Request for each course to the School Certifying Official.
  • You must use the maximum amount available each year and also maintain a 2.0 undergraduate cumulative GPA or 3.0 graduate cumulative GPA in order to qualify for this scholarship.
  • Undergraduate students must also complete a FAFSA form to determine eligibility for grants.

Veterans Tuition Discount

Crown College offers a 15% discount on tuition for veterans enrolled in the School of Online Studies or Graduate Studies, depending on need. If you are receiving tuition benefits from the VA, you will not be eligible to receive the Veterans Tuition Discount.

Application Process

 

Veterans Spouse Tuition Discount

Crown College offers a 10% discount on tuition for spouses of veterans enrolled in the School of Online Studies or Graduate Studies, depending on need. If you are receiving tuition benefits from the VA, you will not be eligible to receive the Veterans Spouse Tuition Discount.

Application Process

  • Complete the application in our.crown using the Strategic Partner Scholarship Application. 
  • Provide proof of eligibility (i.e. veteran spouse ID or marriage certificate & spouse’s DD214) to the School Certifying Official.

Chapter 30

Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty

You may be eligible for these benefits if:

  • You entered active duty for the first time after June 30, 1985
  • You had your military pay reduced by $100 a month for the first 12 months
  • You served honorably for at least two years


Documentation Process

Please complete and submit the appropriate forms below (originals or copies) to the Registrar’s Office at Crown College.

If you have never applied for benefits, submit:

  1. Application for VA Benefits (22-1990)
  2. Discharge from Active Duty (DD214)
  3. Request for Enrollment Certification (PDF)


If you have previously used your benefits at a different institution or have not attended Crown for one year or longer, submit:

  1. Change of Program or Place of Training (22-1995)
  2. Request for Enrollment Certification (PDF)


Education Benefit Information

The Montgomery GI Bill provides a personal stipend each month for up to 36 months of education for full-time students. Payment amounts are reduced proportionately for part-time status. Visit the VA website for more information about current rates.

Veterans generally have up to 10 years to use their benefits although certain circumstances may shorten or lengthen the time limit.

Chapter 31

Vocational Rehabilitation + Employment

You may be eligible for these benefits if:

  • You served after September 16, 1940
  • You have a service-connected disability rated at least 20 percent disabling by the USDVA
  • You need vocational rehabilitation to overcome an employment handicap


Documentation Process

You must meet with a VA counselor then apply for Chapter 31 benefits. Once the VA counselor has determined your eligibility, a payment authorization will be sent to the certifying official at Crown. The College’s School Certifying Official and the Student Billing office will process the paperwork required by the VA counselor.


Education Benefit Information

Benefits cover tuition and fees, books, supplies, equipment, and if needed, special services. Payments will be made directly to the College. Depending on your circumstances, you may also receive a monthly stipend to help with living expenses.

Chapter 33

Post 9/11 GI Bill

Eligibility criteria and benefit amounts vary for VA programs from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (USDVA). You’ll find specific information about the Post 9/11 GI Bill at the link below including information about transfer of entitlement to your spouse or children.

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

To receive your Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI benefits at Crown College, submit a completed Request for Enrollment Certification to the Registrar’s Office. If you have received a letter from the VA with your benefit eligibility information (a Certificate of Eligibility or COE), a copy should accompany your request for certification. Contact the School Certifying Official if you have questions about using your VA benefits.

Yellow Ribbon Program

Crown College is participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program. This program allows degree-granting, private institutions to enter into an agreement with the Department of Veteran Affairs to fund tuition expenses that exceed the Post 9/11 funding cap.  Students must qualify for the maximum benefit under Chapter 33 to be eligible for Yellow Ribbon Funding. Chapter 35

Survivors + Dependents Education Assistance Program (DEA)

You may be eligible for these benefits if you are a spouse or dependent of a veteran who:

  • is totally and permanently disabled from a service-related injury or
  • died due to a service-related injury


Documentation Process

Please complete and submit the appropriate forms below (originals or copies) to the Registrar’s Office at Crown College.

If you have never applied for benefits, complete:

  1. Application for Survivors and Dependents Educational (22-5490)
  2. Request for Enrollment Certification (PDF)


If you have previously used your benefits at a different institution or have not attended Crown for one year or longer, submit:

  1. Change of Program or Place of Training (22-1995)
  2. Request for Enrollment Certification (PDF)


Education Benefit Information

You will receive a stipend for personal use if you are a full-time student. Your benefit will be reduced proportionately for part-time enrollment. Visit the VA website for information on current rates.

Generally, spouses must use this benefit within 10 years from the date their eligibility was determined by USDVA. Children must use the benefit between ages 18-26.

Chapter 1606

Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve

You may be eligible for these benefits if:

  • You are a Reservist or National Guard member who signed a six-year obligation on or after July 1, 1985.
  • You completed initial active duty training
  • You are in good standing with your drilling Selected Reserve unit.


Documentation Process

Please complete and submit the appropriate forms below (originals or copies) to the Registrar’s Office at Crown College.

If you have never applied for benefits, complete:

  1. Application for VA Benefits (22-1990)
  2. Submit the Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) and Kicker Agreement (optional)
  3. Request for Enrollment Certification (PDF)


If you have previously used your benefits at a different institution or have not attended Crown for one year or longer, or are currently certified under Chapter 1606, submit:

  1. Change of Program or Place of Training (22-1995)
  2. Request for Enrollment Certification (PDF)

The Department of Defense may make additional contributions, or kickers, on your behalf if you are an individual who served in a critical military field. Contact your unit to find out if you qualify for the kicker.

Your benefits must be used while actively drilling with a National Guard/Reserve unit. Once you leave the National Guard/Reserves, your education benefit ends.
