Class of 2025
Background
For most of his career, Professor Greg Loomis was a local church pastor in the Twin Cities metro area. Over the years he has taught a plethora of classes in Christian ministry and leadership online. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration management at Pennsylvania’s PennWest Clarion. He then earned his master’s of divinity and doctorate of ministry degrees at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Illinois. After being introduced to Crown College in 2002, Professor Loomis has been a part of the Crown faculty for more than 20 years as an adjunct professor.
Living a Faith-Applied Life
Professor Loomis teaches people who have a wide variety of ages, backgrounds, and professions. Some are pastors and missionaries while others are stay–at–home moms and businesspeople. What they all have in common is wanting to take their Christian faith and integrate it into their own life context. “I like the courses because I think that they are a good combination of both Bible and practice,” Loomis said.
A Legacy of Encouragement
Because his students are doing a wide variety of things, Professor Loomis wants to encourage them to keep progressing. He says he wants to help his students learn what it looks like to apply the Bible to their individual lives as they take their next steps in life. “If I could just help them, lead them, and encourage them, that would be my legacy,” Loomis said. “To help students to walk with God and live their Christian life in their ministry, family, jobs, or whatever setting they are in.”
Q&A
Question: What class/classes are you most passionate about teaching and why?
Answer: “Biblical Communicator, because even if not every student is going to be a preaching pastor, they will have opportunities to teach at youth groups, Sunday school, nursing homes, camps, vacation Bible schools, and other places like this. This class helps students take what the Bible says and communicate it to other people.”
Question: What is your teaching style and how does it inspire academic excellence in your students?
Answer: “I like, especially because I teach online, to be interactive with my students. To be academically excellent, students need to be able to evaluate and form opinions, questions, and conclusions. I want them to be able to apply what they’ve learned to their lives.”
Question: What advice would have been helpful when you were a student?
Answer: “The goal is not just information, it’s transformation. Apply Christ to whatever you are learning. Be a learner in your heart not just in your head. ”
Question: What is your favorite thing about being a professor at Crown College?
Answer: : “Crown does a good job of fostering connection. I’m not full-time and I don’t work on campus, but I’ve still appreciated getting to know a lot of faculty, staff, and students.”
